Straight Talk

Why put apricot kernel in chocolate at all?

Because the kernel is bitter, and chocolate is the oldest trick there is for carrying something bitter. Apricot seeds are a great source of B17, also called amygdalin, part of the nitriloside family of compounds found in over 1500 natural sources including nuts, seeds and vegetables.

We put the number on the front of the box instead of burying it: 200 mg of amygdalin per bar, 40 mg in each of the five servings.

The kernel, without the chocolate.

EatApricotSeeds sells the raw bitter seeds themselves: California grown, air dried, tested pesticide and herbicide free. The bar is the easy way in; the seeds are the straight version.

Good Questions

Before you unwrap it.

How much should I eat?

From the label: start with 4 pieces a day, eating no more than one bar per day unless otherwise directed by a nutritionist or health professional.

Does it taste bitter?

It tastes like 68% dark chocolate with a nutty edge from the apricot seed meal. The kernel is present, not hidden, but the cacao leads.

Is the sweetener refined sugar?

No. Organic coconut sugar, which is lower on the glycemic index than cane sugar and keeps the ingredient list to four recognizable things.
